    The department with two individual chairs, Natural and Formal Sciences and Humanities, forms the backbone of other academic subject areas. The primary purpose of the department is to graduate officers who have the ability to apply foundations of mathematics and logic to the solutions of problems, to promote scientific literacy, to communicate clearly and effectively with a range of audiences both orally and in writing, to acquire the foundational principles, concepts and values of the Constitution and to develop historical knowledge and appreciation of history.
