SECURITY SCIENCES

PURPOSE AND CONTENT

Security is the complete studies carried out individualistically and institutionally to have a social life with a legal order and without any fear. Security services consist of studies carried out at national or international level in order to provide security for people’s, groups’ and society’s basic needs. All these studies of national and international security, terrorism, security management and criminal investigations are related to and interactive with several sciences. Today, in order to make rapidly changing security problems revealed and to make the necessary studies related to the solution of the problems, the need for interdisciplinary education programs is gradually increasing. In this context, Security Sciences Department includes Security Management, Criminal Investigations, International Security and Terrorism as graduate programs.

General purpose of Master’s Program with thesis: The purpose is to provide access to information via scientific research, to acquire the ability to evaluate information and interpretation. It is aimed to make the participants of the programs to get the ability to reach the conceptual information about Security Sciences and to be able to evaluate the information.

General purpose of Doctorate Program: The aim is to make students be able to make research independently, to interpret the information with a wide perspective and in order to reach new synthesis to be able to make decisions. At the end of the program, the participants will be able to make analytical and conceptual synthesis with a wide perspective and to get the profession of evaluating the dynamic and changing structure of the area.

SECURITY MANAGEMENT MASTER PROGRAM

It is aimed to make students follow developments and changes in the international extent about crime, criminality and their international dimensions. It is aimed to be able to deal with these more effectively and scientifically, to be able to do scientific research in the field of “Security Management” and give consultation. Moreover, it is aimed to give methodologies which will help students to make more effective and fruitful decisions and to give the necessary information in order to plan the strategic police activities and to practice these effectively.

Security Management Master’s Program; is designed together with the disciplines such as law, sociology, anthropology, psychology and information systems. It is aimed to make the participants be able to struggle with the criminality, to do the police services in order to prevent crimes and to apply the precautions taken for the crimes. The participants will be able to follow the developments, do scientific research, evaluate the information and interpret it.

CRIME INVESTIGATIONS MASTER PROGRAM

The aim of this program is to make students follow changes and developments in the other countries related to the area of crime, criminality and crime prevention strategies; therefore, to be able to decide whether these developments and practices can be implemented in our country in order to deal with crime and criminality more effectively. The participants will be able to do scientific research and consultancy in the area of “Crime Investigations” and make effective decisions with the help of the strategies and methodologies learned.

INTERNATIONAL SECURITY AND TERRORISM GRADUATE PROGRAMS

The aim of this program is to make students conscious of the developments and changes in the world about terrorism, methods of combating terrorism, changing security concepts and generated new security needs. The students will be able to make the necessary comparisons between the strategies in other countries and their practicability in Turkey. Additionally, students will be able to do scientific research and consultancy in the area of “International Security and Terrorism” and also to make more effective decisions in the institutions they are going to work with the help of strategies and methodologies they have learned.

The program of “International Security and Terrorism” aims to raise personnel who will be able to combating international crimes and criminal groups who threaten country’s security and take the necessary precautions which reveal international threats.
